Though I have been out and about today, I am still worn out from the vacation.
Hence a poor photo of my easy supper.

A fox in the yard
Back home in Wilmington, tired but safe and sound. Grateful for Ned driving back so I didn't have to.
This morning the hubby went for his usual walk, and as he was coming into the yard, he spied a fox sitting at the edge of the "forest." "Get your camera," he told me when he came in. So I did.
I knew there were foxes in the neighborhood, though I had not seen one with my own eyes.
But there he was, sitting on the pine needles sunning and grooming himself like a cat.

Safe Arrival
The sky was a beautiful blue filled with fluffy white clouds all the way to Blue Mountain Beach. I had a good book on CDs to listen to that kept the long ride on I-10 from being boring, and I arrived safely at this pretty place. Now we are waiting for Stuart and Jacob to arrive from OKC. The house Paige rented is one of maybe ten Italianate style homes in a row that are only a stone's throw from the pretty Gulf Coast. Close to sunset, we girls took our cameras and walked down to the water. Here is a picture of Carin. After so much driving, I hope we all sleep well tonight.

on the road
Tucked away in a Hampton Inn halfway to my destination of Blue Mountain Beach. I had no idea how luxurious it would feel!

A Spider in May
The spider's touch, how exquisitely fine!
Feels at each thread and lives along the line.

Not meeting my goal today
The goal of posting a picture each day in May. Oh well.
When I get to Florida nest week, I will have some dazzling pictures!
Stay tuned.

The Lake in May
The sky was blue, the weather perfect, and there were lots of folks at the lake today. The mother of this HS grad had a big camera and was shooting pix of her daughter posing in graduate attire. She asked me if I liked pictures, too. Then she showed me the ones in her camera, which were quite good. They let me take a picture. And I am so glad the rail was put up. Safety, you know.

A Really Old Car
Jim who owns the Art Works used to have many old cars, and he was using the building for storing them. Many were rented for use in movies. He has managed to keep a few, and I think this Paige has been one of his favorites. But next week, the big place will be hosting a show, so it and the truck beside it must leave the building.

Shopping globally
There are a few stores around town that make me think I am in another country. For instance there is a Mexican grocery store (supermercado) that - once you step into - you feel transported to another land. Everyone is speaking Spanish, the shelves are filled with foods with Spanish labels, and the prepared takeout seems more authentic than what we love in Mexican restaurants. We also have a big Asian market with lots of unusual-to-me items. And I went in this cool store downtown that has rice and beans in big sacks. Not customary HT style.

A Meeting in May
This morning I was thinking that since I rarely post pictures with people in them, I would ask the women in the art meeting if I could take a picture of them together. Surprisingly they loved the idea and wanted to have it taken near the garden - since we were at the Arboretum. I took a couple, and then a nice person came and offered to take one with me in it. I squeezed in for the shot.

Up in the sky
It is so much fun to capture a picture of a bird in flight - especially a pelican - with my pocket camera that has the better zoom. The detail can't match what the big cameras get, but in this one you can see even the small hook at the end of the beak. Pelicans are fascinating creatures.

On this day in May 2016
Today I am going to take the archives - the first few years of the minutes through 1990 - of the Tuesday Book Club to the library, so they can become part of Wilmington history. Since I am secretary (by rotation) this year, it is upon me to have them in my possession.
The current members have talked about their importance. One woman feels they are interesting for women's history. Last meeting we decided to take action. The local history librarian was called, and she said she will definitely take them. They will be better off there than with me.
Some of the women in the Book Club were prominent in their own right. Some were the wives of movers and shakers, and information about them may be searched for at some time.
Whatever, the minutes reflect a tad bit of what life was like through the years.
I am posting a picture of the minutes of the first meeting. Now I feel it is an honor to be a member.

A New Place in May 2016
On this day, I decided to drive about four miles down River Road to the park and fishing pier, another place that I had not been to. The drive was interesting because there is so much change going on. A huge development is in the works along the Cape Fear. About 50K new people are expected to move here within the next few years! I chose this pic to post because of the many pelicans along the railing of the neighboring pier and how they were curious about the guy in the boat.

An Evening Last Week
This was one of those days that I didn't even get outside. Too much to do inside.
So I am "cheating" and posting a picture I took last week at the beach. It has been messed with as you can tell, but that is what photographers do now.

An Unusual Park in May 2016
Last year I challenged myself to take and post a photo each day in May. This year I decided to do the same.
Just today I heard about a carnivorous plants garden only 3-4 miles from my house, and I had to go. I wanted especially to see a Venus Fly Trap, Wilmington's unique native plant, because I haven't seen one since being here.
After parking my car, I took the winding walkway around to the low lying, damp garden area and soon spied the pitcher plants. Then I just followed the stone path to see it all. It was really a treat to be able to go.
Here are some pics. (I have more!) I am not sure of the names.
Due to "technical difficulties," I will have to put the fly traps on another post.
