Last Day of the Abstract Painters

Wonderful historical statue

I was crushed when this Wilmington fixture was taken down in 2020. The hatred and deceit made it a difficult year. Among the casualties was this tribute to Confederate soldiers who fought bravely, my ancestors among them. When I was little and we were living in Charlotte and making the bi-monthly trips to Wilmington, this statue made me very happy. I did not know what it meant or stood for, just that it was lit up at night and seemed to welcome me back home. I was devastated when it was removed. I believe the “offensive” statues were taken to a safe location and maybe someday, I will see it and others again. I am glad I stumbled upon this pic today in my photo archives.

 Twelve women will be painting here next week. All abstract artists who paint big! Here are their assigned spaces. You can see canvas on the walls, and their supplies on their tables. I was glad to see they have the same supplies I do! I wish I were painting with them.

Mining the Psalms

I am loving my deep study of the Psalms, but it's always hard to know which Bible to use. I appreciate all the good versions and never know which to base my study on. I think I have turned into a Bible collector. 

This is my childhood Bible, a good old KJV without any new-fangled study notes. It wasn't hard for me to read when I was eight years old, and I loved it even then. But the KJV was new in its time. The Psalms were written in Ancient Hebrew, and only those scholars can read the original now. Tomorrow we will be studying Psalm 18. Great one!

Painting is stressful. This was unfinished for maybe as long as two years. A few minutes ago, after dark, I tidied it up and called it quits. It has some right things and a lot of wrong things, nevertheless.

Something I really enjoy.

I got some tulips at the store yesterday. This morning I took some iPhone pix and played around with them. What could I see?  With some editing, I came up with these. The one in color was cropped and color adjusted. Then I doctored the images some more, making a semi-sepia toned one and a b/w one.  Plus an extra.

I didn't attend, but I happened to get up early and watch it on the telly from whence came this photo.

Being that a part of me is still a little girl who loved fairy tales, I found it all fascinating, especially the Cinderella style gold carriage. What a ride! What a celebration! 

I concluded that it is good for a country to have a decent monarchy as opposed to how America pressures the public into accepting trashy celebrities in their place.
