Don't go!

Please April, don't leave yet.
The prettiest month will be gone in a couple of hours, and due to the cold, rains and allergies, I feel I have missed it. So sad. May will be here soon.

beach chicken

Seagulls are all over town, but I am most fond of them at the beach where they belong.

being here

Seventy-five degrees and sunny today. Lovely. This is where my mind and body longed for all those days of trudging in to work, counting the hours, tending to a high maintenance house and oh so much more. I am thankful and must keep up my gratitude and sense of wonder rather than taking anything for granted. This is what I worked for.

I have joined and started a few things, enough that I do not let the days get by without some structure. I have met many nice, thoughtful and interesting people and am developing some friendships. Since I was in the Upstate of SC so long, it is what I use to compare, and for me, Wilmington is on the winning side. Here I am the norm as everyone I meet has the same multiple interests I do. Everyone is a photographer! Many blog. Or they are philosophical, thinkers, helpers, conversationalists, environmentalists, arty folk, readers and writers. I fit right in, though somewhere on the lower end of the continuum.

A couple of typical stories. I went to see the chiropractor last week and was ushered back to the waiting hall. Because I had a longish wait last time, I carried a book with me. Before I could sit down, the other woman who was waiting asked me what I was reading, that she was always interested in knowing what people read. I told her, and because she asked me what types of books I enjoyed the most, we launched into a conversation about biographies and particularly the one about Van Gogh. She knew all about Vincent and even gently corrected my pronunciation of a couple of Dutch names that I must have been butchering.

In Life Drawing on Wednesday, the coordinator said something to the model about her singing. Then the model asked, "Do you want to hear me sing?" We all said yes! So she belted out an Adele song, and it was quite nice. Not that I would do that, but I do appreciate someone who will!

Anywhere a party

On this pretty sunny day at this moment, I am at the car wash waiting for my VW to be finished with its long needed beauty treatment. As with all things Wilmington, this place is more entertaining than any car wash I have previously visited. Lots of young folks rapidly doing all the work.  Girls in red shirts and form fitting black pants that go from short shorts to capris are organizing, taking the money, driving and wiping. Guys are doing the job of vigorously hand washing all the vehicles. Pop music blares, conversation is animated. One just playfully did some handstands in the midst of slowly moving cars and nobody called him out on it. Ah Wilmington. Always a party going on.
